Many companies now ask employees for end-of-the-year evaluations. In these, the employee discusses his or her progress throughout the year, both successes and failures (if there were any.) Moreover, goals for one's self are listed or discussed. Thus, the final report you will write in this class is a reflective report. A report of this sort uses all of the tools you have gleaned while improving your writing skills:
| focusing on one topic with a explicit thesis statement; | |
| developing a logical progression of thought; | |
| using transitions to move from one idea to the next; | |
| drawing upon specific evidence; | |
| displaying a mastery of mechanical and grammatical correctness. |
Your job then is to reflect upon your experiences in this class, then write about them, describing how you have changed as a writer throughout your time in English 120. Since you are a pioneer of sorts, as not many people have taken this type of class, you should have much to share about your experiences. Some ideas you might incorporate, but you are not restricted to:
| what surprised you about your writing | |
| what you still need to work on | |
| what you gained and/or loss | |
| who you are as a writer | |
| how your writing has changed | |
| why taking a technical writing class worked (or didn't work) for you | |
| any ideas that come to you about the writing process | |
| what you would have done differently had you the chance | |
| what was your best work? the worst? | |
| what have you learned about your goals in regards to working? | |
| have your ideas about your career changed through this course? |
The goal here is to reflect back upon your development in these last few weeks, and write about those insights. This is your chance to talk about yourself as a worker and a writer. Please follow your own inspiration here. Know, too, that reflection reports are rarely less than two pages long, as they require depth of thought that means adequate development. Since this will be the final report you write in English 120, your talents should be amply displayed.
