    Main and Subordinate Ideas   Week 8
    M:  Work Day. Use Reader Roadtrip. 
    T: Summary due/TJE due. Discuss main ideas. Progress report due on book review. HW: JE - Discuss your progress so far-did it match the results of your mid-term's progress?
    W: Subordinate ideas. HW: Read an article in the newspaper about work. JE: Summarize article.
    R: Discuss readings, transitions. HW: JE: Your choice.
    F: Computer Lab: type JE. HW: Read: Chapter 8.

    Understanding Paragraphs  Week 9
    M:  Please read Chapter 8 and be prepared to discuss it on T. Also, do exercises 8-1 through 4.
    T: Holiday.
    W: Discuss Chapter 8.   Mastery test, p. 252-254.  JE due. HW: BR/JE Write a one paragraph summary of your novel. Topic Sentence work! HW: Read BR: 10 minute non-stop writing--What I liked about my novel. 
    R: Writing Day. Work on your own. Find a quiet place to write. Complete a plot line on your book, along with complications and everything, then do a 30 minute non-stop writing on your book. These will be due on Monday when we meet.
    F: Computer day. HW: Read article about something you like. Read Chap. 9 BR- 10 minute non-stop What I didn't like about novel.
    Discussion question: What was it like writing using non-stop writing skills?

    Week 10

    M: Holiday. 
    T: Mastery test, p. 303-05. Discuss Chapter 9. BR: Would you recommend your novel or not - 10 minute non-stop writing.
    W: Memorization handout. Common organizational patterns used in writing. HW: BR : Putting a Book Review together -- read model book reviews.
    R: With your team members: Design a activity to teach Chapter 10. Groups: Day 1) Day 2) Day 3) Day 4) JE: Respond to today's class discussions. Review model BR.
    F:   Computer day. HW: Read Chap. 10 and Chap 11
    Discussion Question: What is still giving you nightmares (if anything) when it comes to reading/summaryzing/finding key ideas/ taking test?

    M: On your own. Read short story included in packet--this is the packet that had the story by Joel Chafetz-- the story is by Andrea Cornochio (thanks, Rosalie), and read the one on page 515, and turn in 1) checking your comprehension, 2)the elements of the short story and 3)the discussion questions on Tuesday. Also look to Week 10, where you and your classmates will be teaching the class for a week. Start thinking of it now, okay?
    T: Discuss Chapter 8.   Mastery test, p. 252-254.  JE due. HW: BR/JE Write a one paragraph summary of your novel. Fill out thinking ahead about your presentation
    W: Writing Day. Work on your own. Find a quiet place to write. Complete a plot line on your book, along with complications and everything, then do a 30 minute non-stop writing on your book. These will be due on Thursday when we meet.
    R: Topic Sentence work! HW: Read BR: 10 minute non-stop writing--What I liked about my novel.

    Week 11

    M: Mastery test, p. 383-391. Peer edit book review.
    T: Make questions for final. Write Reflection paper. Due on Thursday of next week.
    Week's Question: Final Thought! Final chance to add your ideas and thoughts to the board!
    Presentations. BR due on Monday. You will have approximately five to seven minutes to convince somebody to read your book, so I suggest your bring visual aids--posters or handouts, or whatever you can think to help. You will not be reading the book review to us...you will be selling the idea of reading the book instead.
    Final and reflection paper due on Thursday.
