DIRE ELIZABETH

GOETZ HERBIE -- Herbie Goetz.  Sounds like a guy who might run with the likes of Al Capone.  Herbie’s major is Fire Science.  Herbie said that his experiences in online classes have been good so far.  Herbie is an avid internet user and said he uses it for a few hours a day.
He likes to lift weights, play golf and football.  Herbie thinks of writing with pain.  Since he likes fire and heavy lifting Herbie doesn’t get terribly excited about putting words onto paper.  Herbie’s best writing experience to date was his senior research project.  His worst was his English 99 final.  The most historical event that Herbie can recall is September 11th.  Two adjectives:  funny, energetic.  Herbie’s only goal in this class is to become a better writer…….and to pass. by Matt Jorgenson

HAMM, JESSICA -- Jessica Hamm is a running start student who is a senior at Ferris High School. So far at SCC her experiences have been better than those in high school because the people here are much nicer and more mature than those at the high school. Jessie participates in extracurricular activities such as youth group, babysitting and German club. Jessica enjoys writing if “its on a topic that I care about.” Her favorite reading experience is The Lord of the Rings and her worst is Cujo. The last novel that she read was Piercing the Darkness, by Frank Peretti. Jessie enjoys working in small groups because it allows her to bounce her ideas off of other people. Jessie finds herself cheerful and tactful, because “it is my nature.” Jessie reads the paper everyday of the week, and from this class she hopes “to find ways to improve my writing.” by Monica Tripp

 HULCE KYLE

HUNT LINDA -- Hey I'm Jen and I had the privilage of interviewing Linda.  Linda considers herself to be quiet and thoughtful and thinks that she works well in groups as long as everyone does there part.  She also finds that she is a good listener and enjoys meeting new people.   Her best reading experience was Daddy Longlegs, which she read when she was 12, but don't bring the comics near her as she doesn't find them to be an enjoyable reading experience at all.  She considers writing to be both a pleasure and a pain; enjoys writing once she gets going and things start to flow together a little more, but until that point she thinks of it as more of a pain. This is Linda's second quarter back after receiving her AA degree, with hopes of obtaining her degree in acccounting.  In her spare time she loves to read and exerise and Linda hopes to become a better writer through completing this class. by Jen Dibble

JACKMAN LAUREL -- Laurel Jackman is a person who is in search of a career that will always lead her back to writing as the source; she wishes to pursue a career of publishing. Laurel would describe her experience at SCC as both hectic and fun- she had to learn to balance school, friends, and work and make sure that she did not dwindle in her pursuit of excellence. The only extracurricular activity she is involved with is her job where she works after school. When Laurel thinks of writing she thinks of it as a pleasure, except for writing the thesis statement. Her best reading experience has been the Chronicles of Narnia, but her worst experience of all was the Political Science 101 textbook which proved to be quite a drag. She likes to work in groups when everyone contributes to the work. Some of her skills that she has that she can contribute in a group are organization and fresh ideas for writing. Laurel describes herself as being shy in large groups of unfamiliar people and pessimistic in only the bleakest of situations. The last novel she read was the fifth book of Harry Potter and she only reads the newspaper once a week, Sunday, and that is just for the comics. Her goal for this class is to establish more skills with writing a thesis. by Kyle Hulce

MACKEY JOSEPH

  MCCONNELL CALEB --

Caleb Mcconnell attending SCC and is majoring in Dental Hygiene. His experiences at SCC have been good so far. Mainly because he has taken interesting classes and has really enjoyed them. As far as extracurricular activities go he's currently not involved in any. The reason being that work and school take up so much of his time.
When it comes to writing he says it is a pain because he has trouble in English and doesn't think he is a good writer. However, reading is another story. Lord of the Rings has been his best reading experience, and he's never experienced a bad one. He would also consider himself dull because he enjoys reading books. Though he does not find the time to read the newspaper.
Caleb enjoys working in small groups, but doesn't really think he has any special skills that would enhance the group. Ultimately, he hopes to gain better writing skills from the class. by Lindsey Kropp

ROLOFF JOSIAH -- I interviewed Josiah Roloff for our English 201 biography assignment. I learned that he has three siblings, he drives a 99’ Grand Prix, and is majoring in computer science. He describes his time at SCC as “decent”, considering some instructors have been more challenging than he expected. He doesn’t participate in any extracurricular activities at SCC, but enjoys playing basketball and snowboarding. He looks at writing with a mixture of pleasure and pain, depending on the subject and the writing technique required. Josiah really enjoys reading Tom Clancy novels, and currently can’t recall a “worst” reading experience. He has mixed feelings about group work. He knows it can be fine if he’s with a group of people who want to make an effort. Josiah prides himself on his ability to comprehend what he has read. He’s self described as motivated and personal. Babylon Rising was the most recent novel he read, and he diligently reads the newspaper three to five times a weeks. Josiah hopes to improve his writing skills in this English class. by Jobeth Kochel

ROYER NOAH -- Noah Royer is a running start student and this is his second quarter at SCC, he is undecided on a major. His experience with teachers here has been good. He said he has liked the teachers he has. Noah enjoys snowboarding and basket ball. When asked is writing was pleasure or pain he chose pleasure, he said writing comes easily for him. The best experience in he has had with reading has been the Harry Potter series, Noah didn’t have a worst. Noah describes himself as a quiet person that doesn’t talk much but has a sense of humor. When in small groups he is fine but prefers to work alone. He reads the newspaper daily. His goal for this class is to increase his reading and writing skills. by Donna Woods

 STONE MARLENE

TEFERA GETAHUN

Tripp, Monica -- Monica Tripp is a Running Start student form Ferris High School. Her experiences at SCC have been “mostly good because people are nicer and more mature than at Ferris.” Monica is involved in youth group, church orchestra, track, bowling, club, and art club. She has mixed feelings about writing. If she likes the topic, then she enjoys writing, but if she doesn’t like the subject, “then it’s torture.” Her favorite book is The Oath, by Frank Peretti. Her last favorite book is Death of a Salesman, by Arthur Miller. Monica likes to work in small groups because she doesn’t enjoy talking in front of large groups of people. A special skill of hers that will enhance the group is her ability to tell people exactly what is right and what is wrong with their essays. She describes herself as quirky and adventurous, because she doesn’t care what people think about her. The last book that she read was The Prophet, by Frank Peretti. She reads the newspaper at least three times a week. By the time she completes this class, Monica says, “I hope to better my writing skills.” by Jessica Hamm
