Final Research Project
This research paper is traditional in nature. Please use your handbook to help with
formatting and process. You must use the formal formatting as shown on pages 168-182
in Quick Access. Moreover, please include a cover page.
| The final research project should be from eight to ten pages in length. |
| In your group, choose a topic that all of you have strong feelings about--it should in
one way of another focus on language -- some topics that are hot right now: the
English only movement; "genderspeak;" the language of prejudice; diminutives;
having an important title versus actual rank; getting a raise versus getting a title; a
college's requirement of learning a second language for degree fulfillment; gangsta
speech; a culture's right to a language; the deaf community's right to not have their
children hear; language as a form of dominion; marginalization due to lack of vocabulary;
and language as power. |
The final paper should contain:
| one paragraph about the audience you intend on a separate cover sheet |
| an introduction with a thesis |
| three citations from periodical (either magazines, journals or
newspapers) |
| two citations from at least two articles from the Internet |
| at least one summary of an article |
| an interview with a stakeholder |
| paragraphs depicting your observations of the problem |
| paragraphs discussing your reflections about the issue |
| paragraphs explaining your solutions |
| and a conclusion. |
Of course, feel free to add to this. For example, have your group create a
survey, then use the results in your paper.
