Week 4: Process Analysis  (4/25-29)

		In this assignment we are going to use the aid of student essay to help us understand the  essay that we will be writing:  the process analysis.  Please go to http://ol.scc.spokane.edu/jstrever/models/essays/process/default.htm read at least four of the essays.  Then write a short note on the discussion board about the traits of the "how-to essay.""

		write your own "how to" essay discussing one of the processes that occurs in advertising, i.e., how do advertisers reach their audiences?  how do advertisers create belief in their audiences, how does brand recognition occur and what can we do to avoid it...these are just some ideas. Week 6: MLA Work (5/9-13)

Mandatory meeting! The Second class meeting Room 1220 Old Main, In-class writing -- to be included in mid-term portfolio.     Also, you will need one of your manila folders for the items of the portfolio. Materials to be included in the portfolio: 1) in-class writing based on The Refuge, 2) a revised process or c/c paper, 3) a revised TJE.

Week 9: Gender Essay (5/29-6/2)

• M: Read Introductions
• Write a persuasive research paper  discussing gender and media
• Read Book Review process

Week 11: Final Portfolio Work

M:   Book Review due, rewrite gender paper -- it's due next Tuesday at our final meeting. write a

• reflection paper
• portfolio preparation 
• review the answers from varying groups to questions.

Be sure to peruse the answers to the Review Questions to help you prepare for the final in-class essay!

T:  Final Meeting --

Portfolio due... include either

• the gender, the cause/effect, or book review paper  
• and one  TJE,  and
• one reflection paper to be included in portfolio.

We will meet from 3:30 to 6:30 on Tuesday  in Room 1220G Old Main.  
Gender Paper due.
Turn in complete journal.
All work must be completed at this time.

Class is over for fall quarter.  To figure out your grade, go to the Userspace and find the total number of points that you earned in English 101, then come back to this page click on Grades and find your grade point on the scale.  For example, if  you earned 1155 points for the quarter, your grade in this class would be a 3.3 for the quarter -- of course this only holds true if you passed the English 101 Exit Portfolio with a passing score.  If you did not pass the portfolio, I can only give you a 1.9 in the class, as that is department policy.
