Students will be assigned an interview partner. The partners will interview each other and exchange email addresses.
For homework, each partner will write a profile of the partner based on the interview.
These should be sent to the epartner for correction or clarification.
The final product will be sent to the instructor for posting on the class home page by the first Monday after the initial class.

Week 2: Compare/ Contrast Essay

M: Bios due.
Review Writing Process

Use Compare/ contrast handout  and write your own essay

T: Send C/C Essay by midnight to peer partner for comments.

W &T: On Wednesday and Thursday read and comment upon your peer partner's essay. Exchange your draft with your partners to receive peer comments -- use this edit sheet.

You must contribute a draft to your group to participate in this activity. You will not receive  FB points if I have not received a copy of your draft, and when finished, a copy of your feedback.

Return essay with your comments to author by Friday midnight.   You must also send me a copy of your feedback, so that I can award you FB points.  I will only award FB points to those who submit FB by the appropriate time. 

If you do not receive an essay to read by Wed. evening, please contact me, so that I may find someone with whom you can exchange drafts. Moreover, if you receive an essay on Friday or thereafter, you are not required to offer feedback on it, as FB days are Wed. through Friday and no any other time.

Giving and receiving feedback are valuable learning assets that will enable you to increase your learning in an efficient and rewarding manner.  Those who partake in the process as prescribed benefit in ways too numerous to mention.

Submit TJE#1 to instructor by 6:00 p.m. Friday evening on Blackboard or through email.

Week 3: The Thesis Exercise

bulletM: TJE due. C/C essay due. Review thesis handout. Complete thesis practice. HW: Read Chapter 3 in LA.

bulletT: Send your completed thesis practice to your email partners. Do NOT submit it to me.  Instead copy it into your word processor. Do the exercises and send it to your group members for comments.

bulletW & R: Read and give feedback to group members thesis statements. Offer feedback.

bulletBegin reading Nine Parts Desire.

bulletComplete -- Preview Sheet on the novel. Send it to me.

bulletF: On Friday, Return feedback to partners. Be sure to send a copy of your feedback to me, so that you can receive your feedback (FB) points, then rewrite your own thesis statements based on feedback.

Week 4:Process Analysis (1/23-27)

bulletClick here to write a short response to what's important to a How-to piece;
bulletwrite your own "how to" essay explaining some sort of process that you have experience with -- but be creative, read handout to find out more

bulletT: send your process paper to your peer partners by Tuesday -- if you do not sumit an essay for perusal you will not receive the benefit of FB, nor the points accordeded to it. If your peer group does not receive your paper by 6:00 on Wed., they are not obligated to offer FB as you have failed to meet the requirements of the class.

Week 5: Punctuation Help

IMPORTANT NOTE --From this point on,  the items listed below are ideal dates and time--DO NOT try to live by these times, as they may change as we progress in class.  Some assignments may be discarded and others may be added. Moreover, the times are  NOT accurate, so please do not tell me they are incorrect, as I already know that!

Week 6: Cause and Effect

bullet M: Read cause/effect handout; write an essay about the causes or effects of naming (how names and/or labeling influences our lives).

bullet brainstorm gender and media-- do actual field research for gender, media and language essay i.e., surveys and interviews
bullet survey at least ten people with at least ten questions...if you want me to I will look at your questions before you ask them--if you want to pair or team up with others, the better your results will be
bullet arrange to interview two different stakeholders
