    Final Research  Project

    This research paper is traditional in nature. Please use your handbook to help with formatting and process. You must use the formal formatting as shown on pages 168-182 in Quick Access. Moreover, please include a cover page.

    The final research project should be from eight to ten pages in length.
    In your group, choose a topic that all of you have strong feelings about--it should in one way of another focus on language -- some topics that are hot right now:  the English only movement; "genderspeak;" the language of prejudice; diminutives; having an important title versus actual rank; getting a raise versus getting a title; a college's requirement of learning a second language for degree fulfillment; gangsta speech; a culture's right to a language; the deaf community's right to not have their children hear; language as a form of dominion; marginalization due to lack of vocabulary; and language as power.
    one paragraph about the audience you intend on a separate cover sheet
    an introduction with a thesis
    three citations from periodical (either magazines, journals or newspapers)
    two citations from at least two articles from the Internet
    at least one summary of an article
    an interview with a stakeholder
    paragraphs depicting your observations of the problem
    paragraphs discussing your reflections about the issue
    paragraphs explaining your solutions
    and a conclusion.
