Course Policies - Creative Writing

This class will be an adventure for all of us as we have both virtual and "real" time students.  What that means to us is that we must communicate and exchange ideas on a continual basis, so that all of us can belong to this small virtual community.

I have created a few documents that will help those of you who are out there on their own -- these will help with the managing of email, attachments and such.  Click on any of the links below for aid.

  1. Attachments:  this document will help you with this persnickety problem.  In addition if you do not have Word 7.0, you will be responsible to download the viewer from Microsoft in order to read the attachments I send to you.
  2. Using Email and the Discussion Boards:   look here if you want to know the protocol of these new communication systems.
  3. Work Load:  this is must for any student who believes taking an online class is easier than a regular class.

Grading Policies:

Grades are assigned in the most objective manner as possible.
The portfolio will be given a standard grade, ranging from 4.0 -- excellent  to 0.0 -- not passing, while all other work will be given points.

Typed weekly papers, discussion postings, summaries, definitions,
and other work will receive points based on completion.  A plus-plus,++, designates work that is excellent and is worth 14 points.
A plus, +, indicates an above-average rating and will receive
12 points. Average, *, (what is expected) work will receive 10 points.
Anything less than expected will be returned and will receive no points.

At present the estimated worth of each category is such:

Portfolios--30%
Poems, stories, exercises -- 30%
Participation, i.e., online class discussion, discussion board, emailing group members--20%
Weekly work, i.e., definitions, summaries, exercises and such--20%
