Hello
everyone and a hardy welcome back for those who were away and enjoyed a
great summer!
In an effort
to help maintain the safety and security of our fantastic CCS Community
and provide some information that the Office of Campus Safety thinks may
be helpful, we would like to share the below campus safety
information. In addition, we ask that you help us to disseminate
this information to anyone it may benefit while they are at one of our
CCS facilities. Thank you!

Safety Escorts
The Office of Campus Safety offers
safety escorts, which are available 24 hours a day. This service is
available to anyone on campus who feels they need an escort to or from
their vehicle.
Emergency Blue Phones
Emergency Blue Phones are also
located around campus. In the event of an emergency, press the
button on the Blue Phone kiosk to reach an Office of Campus Safety
officer 24/7.
Classmates
· The
Campus Community is a microcosm of our society, so we have individuals on
our campus who have committed crimes, are convicted criminals, and who
are registered sex offenders (RSOs). Therefore, you should:
o Be sure
you know whom you choose to be alone with and whom you choose to
participate with in study groups. Unbeknownst to you, the person may have
deceitful motives. Make sure you meet on
campus or in another public setting.
o Be
cautious about accepting rides from classmates or meeting to study or
work on projects in each other’s homes.
Surroundings
· Be aware of your surroundings. This applies to everywhere
on campus.
· Trust your instincts. If something does not feel
or seem right, it probably isn’t.
· Call
Campus Safety if you see any suspicious activity.
· Know where your exits are and who is walking,
standing, or sitting behind you.
· Always check who is on the elevator before you step
in. If an emergency occurs while inside an elevator, there is an
emergency phone located inside the call box in all elevators on campus.
Personal cell phones may not get reception inside elevators.
· Do not
leave small portable devices such as laptops, iPods, cell phones, and
other electronics unattended, even for a short period of time.
· Do not walk alone at night, especially in dark vacant areas,
and avoid shortcuts. If you must walk alone, walk directly to your
destination on well-lit paths.
Parking and Vehicles
· Always
park in well-lit areas.
· Keep your
vehicle locked at all times and do not leave valuables in your vehicle.

SMOKING ON CCS PROPERTY
Tobacco use on the CCS property is limited to
designated areas. This restriction includes smokeless tobacco
(chew) and e-cigarettes.
MARIJUANA
Marijuana, although now deemed
legal (I-502) in Washington State is still prohibited on campus. The
restriction on marijuana use on our campus, in any form, is similar to
the restrictions regarding the use of alcohol. Alcohol consumption
and use is legal in the state of Washington, but CCS restricts its use
and possession on our Facilities. In addition, the new marijuana
law is not consistent with Federal law and because of Federal financial
aid laws etc., we must conform to Federal rules or our Campus is at risk
losing its federal funding. (WAC 132Q-30-228 & 230)
