Fall Quarter 2011 Scavenger Hunt Due: BEGIN E Walk from the Main Building (the building that houses our classroom) to the Lair. (The SCC Bookstore will be on your left and the mall entrance will be to your right.) First, locate the SCC Student Career and Employment Center. Enter the center and ask about the services offered. Take notes about your discoveries. Remain in the Lair and browse the cafeteria area to see what amenities are available. Find a fireplace if there is one. Return to the center of the Lair, face east (Greene Street
will be to your back), and walk east down the mall ahead of you. As you walk down the mall, pay particular
attention to the offices, services, and facilities on your right. Did you
pass a theater on your way? Take notes about your discoveries. When you reach the end of the mall, exit the Lair, cross the short walkway, and enter the SCC Sports Center, building 5 (the building in front of you.) Locate the Sasquatch Mascot. Estimate its height. Write down your estimate. Next, tour the Sports Center a bit to see if it has ___A basketball court? ___An indoor track? ___An exercise center? ___A swimming pool? ___An sporting goods shop? Using your best interpersonal skills, ask someone in
charge about if, how, and when you can use the exercise center
and the swimming pool. Can you bring
children and/or guests? Take notes
about your discoveries. Exit the Sports Center through the door you entered and walk a few steps south (turn left and walk toward the big parking lot) to find the tennis courts. How many are there? While at the tennis courts, wave to the two-story brown brick building to the east. This is building 27, the Math/Science Building. Just to the right of the Math/Science Building is the Automotive/ Diesel-Heavy Equipment Building. Wave to it as well. Retrace your steps to the center of the Lair and walk out the north door into the SCC Commons (The Main Building--building 1 (the building where our classroom is located)--will be to your back). The SCC Commons is a large outdoor “green” area with lawn and beautiful trees reflecting each season. Continue north through the Commons to find the outdoor amphitheater. (You will know it because the structure will remind you of an alien landing pad.) If weather permits, have a seat on one of the concrete steps and enjoy a few minutes of relaxation. Continue east from the Commons
to building 7 (it’s just north of and right next to the Sports Center) and locate the Student
Health Center. Ask about their hours,
their services, their prices, and whether you qualify to get help at the
facility. Take notes about your discoveries. From building 7, walk to the west (toward Greene Street) to building 9, the Health Sciences Building. Enter the building, find the office, and ask if any dental or vision services are available for students, and, if so, what the services would include. Take notes about your discoveries. When you exit the Health Sciences Building (building 9), continue west (toward Greene Street). Just before you get to the Environmental Sciences Building (the grey brick building in front of you), look to your right to find the walkway to the greenhouses. Enter the greenhouses, stroll around a bit, enjoy the ambiance, and then find The Greenery. Ask at The Greenery about purchasing plants (flowers, etc.). Take notes about your discoveries. From the greenhouses, walk south (back toward the Lair) to the Learning Resources Center, building 16 (commonly referred to as the library). Enter the building and find Media Services. Walk up to the desk and ask about the procedure for using a computer in the Media Services Center. How do you get the computer screen to turn on? Cross the hall and enter the library. Ask about how many books, magazines, etc., you can have checked out at one time. Find the Reference Section on the main floor and browse the book titles. Find the Careers Bookshelf and browse the titles. Find the current issues of the magazines our library subscribes to. Browse the titles. Find the media shelves and browse the DVD titles available. Go up the stairs and browse the stacks of books that you
can check out. Find the Hagan Center. Using your best interpersonal skills, ask
about its purpose. Take notes about
your discoveries. Return to the Main
Building. Using your best
interpersonal skills, ask for directions to the SCC Bakery and Orlando’s. Ask about the services each offers and the times each is open. Take
notes about your discoveries. Climb to the second floor of the Main Building, and again, using your best interpersonal skills, ask directions to the SCC Cosmetology Center. Once there ask about their services and prices. Take notes about your discoveries. Weather permitting, return to the SCC Commons and enjoy. Otherwise, return to the Lair and check out the game room or, better yet, go back to the library and enjoy a book or magazine. |
